just trying to break the ice
pulling myself up
from beneath the surface
I opened my eyes
ears, nose and throat
allowing everything I felt
to flood through my body
my blood is pumping
as it never has before
and winter is here
to chase away my fears
I breathe the ice cold air
and hold it in for some
exhaling slowly
as a last attempt at sanity
I pull my legs up to my chin
and find myself reborn
